Tiwa Savage leapfrogged Davido to win the Best African Act at the just concluded MTV EMAs (European Music Awards) which took place on Sunday at the Bizkaia Arena (Bilbao Exhibition Centre) Spain.
The Mavin Records first lady stormed Bilbao, Spain to receive her well deserved award which was presented to her off the stage.
While she is still basking in the euphoria of her newly achieved feat, as the first female to win MTV Best African Act we take a look at a few reasons why we think she beat Davido in that category.
We believe her latest controversial music video with Wizkid played a big role in keeping her in the face of her fans who voted for her across Africa. Which we believe was part of the reasons why she pulled that ‘stew’ video stunt in the first place.
In the other hand, while Tiwa Savage was canvassing for votes from her fans across all her social media handles, Davido never did so. We want to believe he was totally nonchalant with the award nomination thingy which played out in the voting process.
Also, MTVs system of giving awards to African artistes in the category outside the main show might also be what influenced Davido’s decision in putting less interest in the voting process.
